CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – After a short delay and change of venue, Missouri Baptist Softball split Monday's doubleheader with Central Baptist College.
GAME ONE
Shelby Sievers got the nod for the Spartans and struck out two in the top of the first. MoBap wasted no time in the bottom half of the inning, as
Madalyn Bone and
Ellie Wessel both were walked to start things off.
Kolby Brake loaded up the bases with a single of her own. Sievers decided to add her own run support with a single down the left field line scoring Bone and Wessel. Brake then stole third to set up a first and third situation with no outs. Brake would find her way home on a double steal attempt as Sievers was caught in a pickle allowing Brake to make it home safely and extend the Spartan lead to 3-0. With the bases cleared an error put
Kaylee Morris on first and allowed MBU to continue to cause trouble.
Molly McPheeters grounded out to advance Morris into scoring position.
Natalie Archer followed up with a single, allowing for Morris to make it to third.
Isabella Schlemmer singled to score Morris but Archer was thrown out trying to stretch to third, ending the inning.
In the bottom of the third Brake and Sievers hit back-to-back home runs to extend the Spartan lead to 6-0. Neither team could muster up much offense as pitching dominated this one after the third inning. MoBap took game one, 6-0, as Sievers picked up her 14th win of the season over six innings of work, while allowing only three hits and striking out four.
GAME TWO
CBC struck first in this one with three runs in the top of the second and another in the top of the fourth. With some work to do
Kolby Brake stole home in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the Mustang lead. After four innings CBC led the Spartans 4-1.
CBC answered back in the top of the fifth adding another to put the deficit back to four. MBU looked primed to turn the game around as they loaded the bases in the bottom half of the fifth. Bone singled into shallow left scoring Archer but
AnnaBeth Batson was unable to beat the throw from left to third and was forced out. A double play ended the inning as CBC avoided what seemingly was going to be more than one run. Down 5-2 with two innings left, MoBap was only able to record one hit in each of the innings as they fell in game two, 5-2, to Central Baptist.
The Spartans look to dust that one off quickly as former AMC foe (4) Freed-Hardeman University comes to town on Tuesday, April 19. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
