SPARTANS KNOCK OFF OCU, GO 1-2 AT STUNT NATIONALS

ROCKLIN, Calif. – In a season already chock full of firsts and the program reaching new heights, Missouri Baptist University STUNT did it again this weekend at the STUNT National Championship – NAIA Division. As the No. 4 overall seed, the Spartans picked up their first-ever win at STUNT Nationals finishing the event with a record of 1-2.

After dropping the opening game to No. 5-seed Hope International University, 12-6, the Spartans rebounded quite well and took down Mid America Division rival and No. 3 seed Oklahoma City University, 10-8. Because of a slow start in Partner Stunts (Qtr. 1) and Pyramids & Tosses (Qtr. 2), MoBap found itself trailing 5-2 heading into the second half. Quarter Three was the turning point as the Spartans shut out OCU and outscored them 4-0 in Jumps & Tumbling. MBU scored four more points in the final period to edge OCU, 10-8.

The victory kept the Spartans alive and set up a rematch with No. 5 Hope International in the next round. On the other end, No. 3 seed Oklahoma City was the first team to be eliminated. The Spartans improved to their record against OCU to 2-1 on the season.

Like the first game of the day, Hope International jumped out to an early lead in the second meeting between the two teams, and again used a strong fourth quarter to distance itself from the Spartans. In the second go-around, MBU outscored the Royals in the third quarter (Jumps & Tumbling), 2-1.

Missouri Baptist STUNT finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 4-12 and scored 104 points on the year for an average of 6.5 points per contest.
