MBU UPENDED AT HOME BY (RV) WILLIAM PENN, (RV) COLUMBIA

ST. LOUIS – Despite a standout performance from its three seniors, the Missouri Baptist men's lacrosse team came up on the short end of a 15-8 decision against (RV) Columbia College on Friday at Spartan Field. On an evening recognizing Noah Campbell, Jaxon Haas and Alex Scott, the trio combined to score seven of the Spartans' eight goals and had the team within striking distance of the Cougars for much of the contest.

Columbia (7-5, 5-2 KCAC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals scored by John Thomas and assisted by Tyler Parrott. That particular CC duo proved to be a thorn in the Spartans' side accounting for 16 points (10 G, 6 A) on the night.

Alex Scott put the first two goals on the board for MoBap, one at the end of the first period, and the other midway through the second. The Spartans grabbed the momentum heading into halftime with two consecutive goals including a double-clutch shot by Noah Campbell (Haas assist) with 2:23 remaining in the half.

Columbia came out with vengeance outscoring the Spartans 5-2 in the third period including a pair of goals just 15 seconds apart to extend the Cougars' lead to four. Noah Campbell gave MBU a glimmer of hope with back-to-back goals to halt CC's 5-1 run out of the break. Unfortunately for the short-handed Spartans, Columbia went into attack mode up scoring four straight in less than 1 and ½ minutes.

Noah Campbell led the Spartans with four goals to bring his season total to 18. Late in the game, Campbell, who earned First Team Independent All-Conference as a faceoff specialist in 2019, made his return to the line and went a perfect 4-for-4 on faceoffs. In the loss, goalie Daniel Heinrich pulled in 12 saves.

In MBU's midweek contest against (RV) William Penn on Wednesday, the Spartans ran into a buzzsaw early as the Statesmen managed to take a 16-1 lead into halftime with the last 11 goals of the half. Missouri Baptist put the first half behind them with a fresh start in the third. The Spartans tied the third quarter 1-1 with WPU and allowed just two goals in the fourth quarter.

Senior Jaxon Haas scored both of MBU's goals in the 19-2 loss.

The Spartans will return to the field one more time in 2022 on Wednesday, April 13 at 3 p.m. for a makeup game with University of Saint Mary.
