ST. LOUIS – Two Missouri Baptist University football standouts swept the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) weekly awards as junior linebacker
Blake Kight and true freshman quarterback
Ashton Strother were named MSFA Midwest Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week.
Kight garnered his second career and second consecutive MSFA Defensive Player of the Week honor for his efforts Saturday in the Spartans' win over Iowa Wesleyan University. The junior from Mt. Carmel, Ill. finished with 13 total tackles, including 10 solo stops.
Much like last week, Kight was not the only Spartan recognized by the conference.
Making his first collegiate start, freshman QB
Ashton Strother was outstanding against Iowa Wesleyan, completing 26 of 46 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. He also passed and ran for a pair of two-point conversions in the four-overtime game. If that wasn't enough, he also punted once to pin IWU inside their own 10-yard line. This is the first player of the week honor for Strother.
The Spartans will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17 when they travel to Livonia, Mich. to take on Madonna University.
