SAINT LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist Spartans Women's Soccer team righted their listing ship in a big way on Wednesday night at Spartan Field. The home squad outshot the Williams Baptist University Eagles 33 to one en route to a 4-0 victory.
The Spartans dominated play throughout and seemed superior in almost every facet of the game. While peppering the Eagles goalkeeper throughout the match, MBU did not surrender a shot until there were under 22 minutes left.
In a contest that was statistically one-sided, the Spartans were able to celebrate a lot of firsts.
Senior
Skyla Koch was the offensive standout. The senior from Florissant, Mo. had two goals on two shots on the night. The tallies are the first and second of the year for Koch, and the first goals she has scored in exactly one calendar year. Her last goal scored was October 18, 2022, vs Central Baptist College. Junior
Maggie Evans got her first assist of the season on Koch's first goal. It was freshman
AnnaRose Eldred's turn to get her first assist of the season on Koch's second goal.
Fellow senior
Gianna Gore continued her hot streak by scoring in her second consecutive game. Junior
Claire Andersen was credited with the assist, her first of the season.
Defender
Piper Brown got the final goal of the game in the 83
rd minute when her crossing pass intended for a teammate was redirected by an Eagles defender and went past the Eagles goalkeeper. The goal was the first of the season for the sophomore from Manchester, Mo.
With the win, MBU improves to 3-10-1 on the year, 2-2-1 in the American Midwest Conference, and temporarily moves into fourth place in the AMC. The top four teams in the conference will host an AMC Quarterfinal matchup on Friday, November 3. The victory is also most-welcome for a battle-tested squad that has just two victories in it's last 12 matches. The Spartans have just two regular season games remaining and are off until next Tuesday when they play their final home game against Stephens College.
