CONWAY, Ark.- Men's soccer faced off against Central Baptist College in their last match up of the regular season. MBU walked away with a tie against the Mustangs, securing their third place finish in the conference.
Missouri Baptist set the tone early, scoring a goal only nine minutes into the game. After sophomore
Marko Dordevic's first header was saved by the CBC goalie, he made another attempt seven minutes later. Junior
Anthony Coppotelli was able to steal the ball from the CBC defender and make his way down to the corner of the Mustangs end. The Collinsville, IL native sent a cross to the front of the goal where Dordevic was waiting. The Belgrade, Serbia product launched himself into the air to head the ball right past the hands of the goalie.
The Spartans were able to maintain that lead for the next 20 minutes until CBC's Daniel Pinkney was able to score the equalizer. MBU kept pressing forward, looking for that second goal to take the lead. In the second half, the Spartans put up a total of 7 shots, with two on goal. Unfortunately, MBU couldn't find the back of the net and ended the regular season with a tie.
After the game, this is what Coach Alvernia had to say. "The boys were really good today and controlled things from the start. Our performance today maybe deserved more but credit to CBC for battling tough. Their Gk made a few top class saves. I'm encouraged by our play today as we head into the playoffs. This was a good standard today and more true to our earlier form in the season."
MBU comes away with a record of 6-4-5 overall and 3-2-2 in conference. With the last of the AMC games completed, the Spartans will be heading into the conference tournament as the third seed. They will be taking on Harris-Stowe State University in the Quarterfinals on Nov. 4 at 7 PM.
