ANN ARBOR, Mich- Missouri Baptist University Men's Lacrosse team is still in search for another win in the beginning of their 2023 season. The Spartans suffered a 13-2 setback at No. 10 ranked Concordia University Saturday afternoon. The home team held the upper hand outshooting MBU 65-17.
Concordia fired first and found the back of the net within the first minute setting the tone for the game. Over the duration of the first quarter the home team scored four more goals putting the Spartans at a 5-0 disadvantage. Goalie,
Ashton Scott was busy in the goal saving 5 of the Cardinals shots.
Sophomore
Caleb Tant registered MBU's first goal of the game in the second period. At the 3:07 minute marker Tant was set up by fellow attacker
Brock Pleis. From just outside of the goal area Pleis attempted a shot but was poorly blocked by Cardinal goalie Sam Bowling. Luckily, Tant was there to pick up the rebound and sent the bouncing ball right past the goalie's feet. Unfortunately for the Spartans, Concordia went on a rampage putting up 5 more goals gaining a 10-1 lead.
St. Charles, Mo. native Daniel Henrich stepped into the goal starting the second half of the game. Â Scoring halted in the third until the Cardinals put one past in the eight minute of the third. MBU defense gained momentum and fended off any further shots from Concordia.
The start of the fourth started looking up for Missouri Baptists and in the first three minutes a freshman from Wentzville, Mo.
Drew Chiodini scored for the Spartans. From a series of passes
Brock Pleis found Chiodini at the 20-yard line free of Cardinal defense. Chodini threw the ball between the posts and brought the score up 11-2. This second goal wasn't enough for the Spartans and Concordia went on to score twice more ending the game in a 13-2 defeat.
Goalies
Ashton Scott and Daniel Henrich both saw 30 minutes of playing time and saves a total of 26 saves. Defensively, Missouri Baptist caused more turnovers than the Cardinals, but weren't as close in ground balls (CU – 38, MBU – 15). Drew Chodini had the team-high taking 3 SOG.
Missouri Baptist University Men's Lacrosse will be back March 13. The boys will be back in Michigan to play Aquinas College. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. EST.
