MBU SPLITS ON DOUBLE HEADER AGAINST CBC

CONWAY, Ark.- In the double header of the week, Missouri Baptist Softball took on Central Baptist College. The Spartans split with the Mustangs, ending their streak with their first conference loss.

GAME ONE
Abagail Cafolla was the leadoff hitter for the Spartans, making it on base with a double that went all the way to the right field fence. Madalyn Bone was able to move Ab. Cafolla around after grounding out to the pitcher. Shelby Sievers then stepped up and hit a single to the left side to get on base. Ab. Cafolla was able to beat the throw home from the short stop, putting the first run on the board. The Mustangs were able to put up two runs of their own in the first, taking the lead 2-1.

In the second inning, the Spartans bats lit up with not one but two home runs. Molly McPheeters hit her second home run of the week right over the center field fence. Kolby Brake followed up right after McPheeters with one of her own, also her second of the week. The Spartans were able to regain the lead 3-2.  MBU was able to hold onto the lead up until the seventh inning where the Mustangs were able to score on a single to the left side. After going into an extra inning, MBU ended up leaving two on base, unable to score. CBC was able to score in the bottom of the eight on a wild pitch, earning the win 4-3.

In the second, the Spartans left a runner on base and then denied the Mustangs their chance with Natalie Archer throwing out their only base runner at second. The first run of the game came in the top of the fourth. Sievers was another Spartan to add their second home of the week to the books, hitting it over the left field fence. The score was tied in the bottom of the fourth after CBC was able to score on a hit to the left field.

In the eighth inning, there was another three up three down for both teams, forcing a ninth. Bone started off the inning, flying out to center field. Sievers was next up to bat, aiming to get something going for the Spartans. The graduate student proceeded to hit a bomb over the left field fence once again, taking the lead for the Spartans 2-1.
