OFFENSE LAUNCHES SPARTANS TO DOUBLE HEADER VICTORY OVER UHSP

ST. LOUIS- Missouri Baptist Softball prevailed over University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in a conference match up at home. The Spartans were able to shut down the Eutectics in only 11 innings, bringing them to 30 wins on the season.

GAME ONE

Game one started with a bomb off the end of Abagail Cafolla's bat as she launched a leadoff homerun over the left field fence. That marked the beginning of a total of six homeruns for the Spartans on the day. The Spartans were able to add onto their 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. With Kolby Brake on first with a walk, Meghan Hager moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Allison Leigraf then stepped up for her first at bat of the game and popped it up just outside of the infield. The center fielder made a dive for the ball but was unsuccessful. Leigraf was able to make it to second while the Eutectics recovered, and Brake was able to score on the play. On the next at bat, Ellie Wessel hit a homerun on the left field line, just inside fair territory. That was the graduate student's first homerun of the season, earing two RBI on the hit. The inning ended with the Spartans up 4-0.

Another homerun on the day came from Shelby Sievers, who led off the bottom of the third inning, bringing the score 5-0. Brake added to that with a homerun of her own in the fifth for the fourth homerun of the game.

The Spartans were able to end the game in the sixth. Wessel, who reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a single by Ab. Cafolla. Both runners were able to advance a base during the next at bat with a set of successful steals. Madalyn Bone, who was in the box for the Spartans, hit a single up the middle to bring in Wessel. Sievers finished things with a walk off homerun, and the Spartans notched another win 10-0.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day started off a little slower than the first but not by much. In the bottom of the second Ab. Cafolla was at it again, this time with a three-run homerun to get the Spartans going. Brake started off the third inning for the Spartans with another walk. Hager was then able to hit a single down the left field line and advance Brake into scoring position. Wessel then stepped up and had a hit up the middle to bring Brake in and advance Hager. The next play came when Madalyn Bone had a hit up the right side that the first baseman was unable to stop. On the error, Wessel was able to make it around to third and Hager scored. The Spartans were up 5-0 at the end of the inning.

The Spartans were able to finish off the Eutectics in the fifth inning. Ab. Cafolla started the inning off with a double to the left center fence. Bone then stepped up and batted in Ab. Cafolla, singling through the right side. Bone was able to advance to second on the Eutectics attempt to throw out Ab. Cafolla. Sievers then had a double to bring in Bone. With the score 7-0, the Spartans were one at bat away from ending the game early. Molly McPheeters was able to end it for the Spartans with a double to score Sievers. With Missouri Baptist's eighth run of the game, the Spartans brought their winning streak to 11.
