Spartans are Championship Bound After Semifinal Showing

ST. LOUIS – With a complete performance throughout on Thursday afternoon, Missouri Baptist women's lacrosse has secured a spot in the game it has hoped to play in all season. The No. 7-ranked and top-seeded Spartans jumped all over Midland University in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) semifinals to skate past the Warriors and punch their ticket to the league's women's lacrosse championship final on Saturday.

MBU (10-4, 4-0 in KCAC) outscored Midland 23-3 in the game hosted at Spartan Field. MoBap came flying out of the gate and didn't stop until the game was firmly out of reach. The Spartans scored the first eight goals of the contest, went to the halftime break up 15-2, and tacked on eight more for good measure in the second half to play for the conference crown against No. 2-seed Ottawa University. The Braves defeated 3-seeded University of St. Mary 20-1 in the other semifinal to claim the second spot in the championship game.

The attack consisting of Kamryn Bell, Mack Miller, and Lydia Cornett, along with midfielder Chayleb Deves, accounted for 16 of the Spartans goals in the tilt. The foursome scored four apiece and were aided by another hat trick by junior Caroline Karr, two more from newly-anointed KCAC Defensive and overall Player of the Year Jordan Haeusser, and a score each by way of freshmen Skyler Morrissey and Gabby McMurry in the victory.

The defense, while allowing three goals, kept the Midland attack under wraps for the majority of the game, needing goalkeepers Amelia Shaw and Alyssa Graebner to make only four saves in total. The Spartans caused six turnovers, controlled the draw on 20 occasions, and had 43 shots with 32 being on net. Bell was the leader in points with two assists to go along with her four-spot in the goal column for a total of six points.

Missouri Baptist will play Ottawa, whom they defeated on the road in the regular season 18-7, for the rights to hoist the KCAC conference championship trophy on Saturday, April 22nd at 4 p.m. from Spartan Field.
