COLUMBIA, Mo.- After beating Stephens College the previous day, Missouri Baptist Softball faced off against Central Baptist College for their second game of the AMC Conference tournament. It was a low scoring game, with the Spartans winning it 3-2.
Shelby Sievers was the starting pitcher for the Spartans, leading the team in the circle for 4.5 innings. The first opportunity for both teams came in the first inning with both earning hits and in the second each had a runner on base with a walk. After the Mustangs went three up three down in the top of the third, the Spartans were able to put runs on the board in the bottom of the inning.
Molly McPheeters started off the inning for MBU with a hard line-drive that the second baseman made a diving catch to secure the out.
Abagail Cafolla then stepped up to the plate and hit a ground ball up the middle. After a fly out by

Shelby Sievers watched four balls go by to move Cafolla into scoring position. With runners on first and second
Kolby Brake had her at bat. After watching a few pitches go by, the junior launched the ball over the left field fence to earn her second homerun of the tournament. Missouri Baptist finished the inning on top, 3-0.
Central Baptist found their first run of the game after the bases were loaded and Sievers walked in a batter. Their second run came in the top of the fifth after the batter was thrown out at first, bringing in the runner on third. Brake attempted to throw out the runner at home but was unsuccessful.
Alexandria Cafolla then came in to pitch after a couple more batters and closed out the inning. Al. Cafolla was able to sit down the next six batters to secure the win for the Spartans. Â
Next up, the Spartans will be taking on No. four seed, Columbia College tomorrow (May 4) at 10 AM.
