MBU fought from behind for a majority of the day and continuously tied the score, but were unable to get in the endzone when they needed to.
Â
The first quarter of the game was all Bobcats as Peru State found the endzone twice to gain a 14-0 lead over the Spartans.
Â
After a beautiful Odaine Reid punt that set up Peru State at their own nine-yard line, the Bobcats' center launched a snap over their quarterback's head who punted the ball out the back of the endzone for a safety.
Â
With the ball down 14-2, Jordan Simpson was getting heavy pressure from the rushing Bobcats and evaded the pocket to find a wide open Kameron Sloan for a 58-yard touchdown catch and run.
Â
After the touchdown the Spartans' defense got a quick three and out to bring out the offense, and quickly Simpson threw a deep ball to Gavin Claud who was wide open for a 56-yard touchdown and the lead.
Â
On the following kickoff MBU kicked a pop up between the return man and his blockers and they both went for the ball resulting in a fumble that Carl Garmon Jr. fell on at the Peru State 27-yard line.
Â
Despite having amazing field position and being helped out by defensive penalties the Spartans were unable to score and turned the ball over on downs to the Bobcats at their two yard line.
Â
Again, the MBU defense forced a three and out and with hopes of scoring again the line drive punt was muffed and Peru State got the ball back at their 42-yard line.
Â
The Bobcats methodically took the ball 58-yards and converted a two point conversion before halftime to make it 22-15.
Â
After the break the Spartans drove almost the length of the field as they went 88-yards capped off with Garmon Jr. going up and over some linemen on his way into the endzone on his six yard touchdown run that tied the game at 22 apiece.
Â
Towards the end of the third quarter the Bobcats were aided with a pair of pass interferences to set them up in Spartan territory before they scored a 38-yard touchdown through the air.
Â
MBU quickly responded with a score of their own, set up by a 47-yard pass from Simpson to Sloan, as Simpson found Tyler Watson as he leaked out on the right side on a play action for a 12-yard touchdown reception.
Â
Peru State continued the back-and-forth battle as they went right down the field and put the Spartans down 36-29.
Â
Needing a score to stay in the game MBU went 70-yards before being forced to kick a field goal from 24-yards that Jonah Cox nailed to put the Spartans down by four.
Â
MoBap needed to get the ball back and that is just what they did as they forced a punt.
Â
The long snap on the punt was a bad one that the punter took a knee with to grab forcing a turnover on downs at the Bobcats 22-yard line.
Â
With great field position and five minutes to score the Spartans were in an ideal position to take the lead, but MBU could not get anything going and turned the ball over on downs.
Â
Just three plays later the Bobcats broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run to seal the deal and top the Spartans 43-32.
Â
Missouri Baptist had a great day on offense as they tallied 448 total yards.
Â
Simpson aired the ball out all day as he was 19-40 with 322 yards and three touchdowns.
Â
Sloan was found twice for 105-yards and Claud hauled in five catches for 98-yards.
Â
Coming into the day the Spartans knew they were going to have their hands full with the athletes that Peru State had up and down their roster, and throughout the day MBU defense had neutralized those athletes.
Â
Rondale Messer broke up five passes and made three tackles.
Â
Blake Kight was all over the field as he made 12 solo tackles and assisted in four more.
Â
Despite the loss the Spartans showed sparks throughout the day, but in the end it was not enough.Â
Â
MoBap will return to the field next Saturday when they will travel to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Clarke University at 1:00 pm.
