Seven Goals From Seven Spartans Lead to Victory Over UHSP

ST. LOUIS- It was a team effort that led to Missouri Baptist's win over American Midwest Conference foes, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.

The Spartans were not messing around in the first half. The team was really putting on the pressure which paid off almost immediately.  Only two minutes into the game, freshman Ognjen Bozovic took a long shot from the corner of the Eutectics box, sending it out of reach of the goalie and into the back of the net. Senior Lucas Encino followed shortly after, collecting a cross from Sergej Misic and scoring his first collegiate goal.

The Spartans didn't stop there. Twenty minutes in they widened the gap even further. Mattia Visintainer lobbed a pass over the top of the defenders and straight to the waiting Marko Dordevic. Dordevic was able to get a head on it sending it in front of the goal where Sergej Misic was able to head it into the back of the net.

Dordevic had been looking for his goal all game, posting five shots so far. His time came seven minutes into the second half. Visintainer was in on the action once again, crossing the ball to the front on the net. Dordevic was able to launch himself above the defenders, heading the ball straight into the net to record the goal.

MBU had their scoring streak come to a halt when the Eutectics were able to earn a goal of their own. UHSP was able to score off a free kick from a foul just outside MBU's penalty box.

The Spartans went unfazed as less than a minute later the Spartans brought the score to 5-1. MBU played a free kick short, leading to a cross that freshman Tertius Aucamp was able to get a piece of. Aucamp was able to send it into the far side of the goal and into the net, scoring his first collegiate goal.

Another first came the way of junior Anthony Coppotelli when he earned his first goal as a Spartan. Aucamp had launched a shot on goal from just inside the Eutectics penalty box. The shot was blocked by a waiting defender, but Coppotelli was there to grab the rebound, sending it past the goalie.

The Spartans didn't stop there. With less than three minutes left on the clock sophomore Keegan Ranney earned his first goal as a Spartan as well. Sophomore Jovan Mihajlovic snaked a pass in to Ranney who was waiting at the top of the Eutectics penalty box. The Lee's Summit, Mo. native was able to settle the ball and made a quick pivot to take the shot. It looked like the goalie was going to make the save but the ball ricocheted off the goalkeeper's arms and into the net.

That last goal cemented the Spartans win even further, leading them to victory 7-1. UHSP was no threat to the Spartans, allowing almost everyone on the bench to get in on the action. 22 Spartans recorded time on the field and two of the seven goals coming from substitutes.

Next up, the Spartans will be taking on conference rivals, Columbia College at home on Saturday, Sept 30.
