SILVIS, Ill. – Playing the always-tough TPC Deere Run course in Silvis, Ill. the Missouri Baptist Spartans Men's Golf team struggled to find their form, finishing 12
th out of 16 teams at the NAIA Midwest Preview on Monday and Tuesday.
At the Par-71 course the Spartans combined for a team score of +69 (803). Midland University and Marian University shared the tournament title with each coming in at +21. The Spartans had only two rounds in which an individual member of the team broke 80.
Top individual results for MBU belonged to Logan Malot. The freshman from Ladue, Mo. fired an opening round 73 on Monday to sit in a three-way tie for eighth place among the 80 competitors after Round One. However, he couldn't find his form on Tuesday and came in with an 83 to finish in 37
th place at +14(156).
The rest of the Spartan contingent was tightly bunched a few shots behind Malot. Fellow newcomers
Sam Beggs and
Tomas Frencia shot 18 over par (79/81) and 19 over par (81/80) respectively. Sophomore
Pablo Gonzalez Vazquez hit 81 in both rounds to finish at +20, good for 57
th place. The low scorer for the Spartans last week, sophomore
Luke Gardner, couldn't match his magic from a week ago in finishing +22(164) which placed him in 61
st position.
The Spartans will be back on the course on Monday, October 9 and 10, to take part in the NAIA Memphis Shootout at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn.
