Spartans’ Take On First Road Test at Central Methodist

FAYETTE, MO. -  With a chance to grab their fourth win of the season, Missouri Baptist University will take on Central Methodist in their first road game two weeks after their no contest due to weather conditions at Peru State.

The Spartans enter today with a 3-1 record and a chance to tie the program's all time win record with just over half the season left. The Eagles are winless in their first five contests with one common opponent in Clarke University that the Spartans took down 42-7 in week two.

Last week the Spartans hosted William Woods University taking care of business 66-7 as Jordan Simpson threw for five touchdown passes and just under 200 yards. The ground game was dominant as well with Lionel Banks carrying the ball for 177 and two touchdowns. Shane Becker caught a career high three touchdown passes and 141 yards in the victory last week.

The Eagles have worked with two Sophomore quarterbacks this season, each averaging just over 100 yards passing per game. Y'Marius Joshlin has compiled four sacks over the course of the season for the Eagles along with a forced fumble.

Last year held the teams' only matchup in the history of their programs. Missouri Baptist came out on top at Spartan Field in a 56-24 fashion. Simpson tossed the football for 269 yards and three touchdowns, and three different rushers carried the ball for 359 yards against the Eagles. The Spartans forced two turnovers in the contest as Kaden Lutjen-Williams and Darryl Krieger came away with interceptions. Zeppelin Velder was able to break up three passes and Rondale Messer had two.
