Numerous Spartans Claim Heart of America All-Conference Honors

ST. LOUIS - Following the Spartans' best season in program history, the Heart of America Conference recognized 11 of Missouri Baptist's athletes onto their All-Conference list.

Lionel Banks, Cale Bunner, and Giovanoi Sanes all brought home First-Team All-Conference honors for their outstanding performance throughout the season.

Banks had a season high 177 yards rushing on the road at Central Methodist. He also racked up a handful of two touchdown games on his way to 13 touchdowns.

Bunner was a key piece to the highly talented offensive line for the Spartans that blocked for 20 rushing touchdowns, and averaged 151.7 rushing yards per game.

Sanes had a career high 68 tackles throughout the campaign, including 17.5 tackles for a loss tallying 52 yards. He also claimed a Heart Defensive Player of the Week award following his five TFL game in the win against Central Methodist.

On the Second-Team All-Conference list for the Spartans is Joseph White, Xaivier Tipler Jr., Rakweon Ramsey, Dabrein Moss, and Rondale Messer.

Tipler Jr. held down the middle of the offensive line, from his center position, that racked up plenty of rush yards and touchdowns throughout the course of the season.

White led the Spartans' receiving core with 807 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions. He also claimed one Player of the Week award for his special teams efforts against Culver-Stockton.

Ramsey lived in the backfield for the Spartans this season as he racked up 17.5 TFLs and eight sacks. Ramsey claimed Heart Defensive Player of the Week after the victory against Missouri Valley when he had two sacks and four TFLs and came up huge forcing a stop late in the contest.

Moss was all over the field for the Spartans all season as he went sideline to sideline making plays for the Missouri Baptist defense. He had a season high 19 tackles against Clarke early in the season, and he finished the campaign with 90 total tackles.

Messer was a cornerstone for the Spartans' defense as he was not tested very often throughout the season. He had a season high three pass break ups against the high powered MidAmerica Nazarene offense. Messer and the secondary did a tremendous job over the course of the season limiting big plays and keeping everything in front of them.

Jordan Simpson, Zeppelin Velder, and Nick Stepney rounded out the All-Conference list for the Spartans as they claimed Honorable Mention awards.

Simpson was a catalyst for the Spartans at the quarterback position. He threw for just under 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns, and only threw five interceptions. Simpson had a season high 275 yards passing in the crazy comeback victory against Culver-Stockton.

Velder had two interceptions on the season and had a season high 12 tackles on the road at Baker. Velder did a great job all season getting downhill from his safety position making plays on rush attempts, and was all over the place keeping receivers from making big plays in the pass game.

Stepney played a vital role in the Spartans front seven as he racked up 61 total tackles, and had two games with double digit tackles against Cumberland and Culver-Stockton.

The Spartans finished the season with a 6-4 record for the best record in the programs' history. These 11 student-athletes played a crucial role in Missouri Baptist's success this season, and many will next year when the Spartans hit the field next fall.
