ST. CHARLES, Mo. - In a two-day event hosted by Lindenwood University, the Missouri Baptist University men's bowling team made it to the fifth round before being knocked out by Lindenwood, and the women's team lost in round four to McKendree University.

On the first day of the Lions Classic, both teams competed in individual games in which the Spartans did well. Four Spartan women finished in the top 10 as did one of the men.

Samantha DeBeaux led the charge for the women placing fourth with an average of 202.33 pins in her three rounds, going 166, 206, and 235 to end on the all-tournament team. Also in the top 10 for the Spartans were Caitlyn Ennis, Whitley Quick, and Amber Lymenstull who averaged 199, 194.33, and 192.33, respectively.

The women came in second only to Lindenwood after day one as they knocked down 5,001 pins.

Dylan Chastain also placed fourth on the men's side and earned all-tournament honors with a 215.7 average. In three rounds, the freshman from Scottsboro, Ala., went 217, 204, and 226.

Day two was bracket play and the Spartan men bested Missouri Valley College in two games to start the day and took their first loss to the Lindenwood in round two. They rebounded to beat the Vikings again and were forced to rematch against the Lions needing two wins to advance to the championship. The Spartans took the first but ultimately fell to the Lions in the second.

The Spartan women dropped their first match of bracket play to McKendree but bounced back with a win against Quincy and Rockford to force another contest with the Bearcats. The Spartans took the first round before McKendree took the next two to knock out Missouri Baptist.

The Spartans' next contest is later in November when they compete at the NAIA Invitational in Jefferson Ky.
