St. Louis, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist Men's wrestling team claimed a pair of dual wins in their Tri-match at home Saturday morning when they won their matches against (RV) St. Ambrose, and a tough Westminster College squad.
Dual vs. St. Ambrose University
The wrestling squad started the morning with St. Ambrose in a close dual, but the Spartans came out on top.
Kicking off the action,
Avelino Mota claimed a technical fall at the final buzzer to put the team up 5-0.
Dillon Witt followed it up with a first-period pin, aiding the team in extending their lead.
In a close-fought match,
Daryl Mills, wrestling up a weight at 141, fell in a 4-3 decision.
Brandon Bollinger, the junior from Pinon Hills, Calif., answered back with his own fall in the third period at 149.
Noah Richardson, the freshman from Eureka, Mo., fell to the #22 ranked wrestler in the country at 157.
The Spartans claimed their last two wins, at 165 and 174, with a technical fall from
Hunter Song and a fall from
Joel Campbell in the second period over a national qualifier.
The Men's Wrestling team split matches with the St. Ambrose but claimed the dual victory 28-23.
Dual vs. Westminster College
After the dual between St. Ambrose and Westminster College, Missouri Baptist's Men's Wrestling returned to the mat dominantly, as they claimed seven of ten bouts in their second dual of the morning.
Things started at 141 when
Daryl Mills claimed a technical fall in the third period, and
Brandon Bollinger claimed a first-period fall at 149.
In a barn-burner,
Austin Tilley debuted at 157 but fell in a 12-10 decision.
The Spartans claimed another set of wins for the middleweights, where
Hunter Song captured a win in a 15-10 decision at 165 against the 14th-ranked 157 in NCAA Division 3, followed by a fall early in the second period from
Joel Campbell at 174.
After a pair of wins for the Blue Jays at 184 and 197, the Spartans rounded out the dual by going three for three in the final three bouts of the day.
Jacob Bader pinned his opponent at 285.
Avelino Mota picked up his second win of the day by forfeit at 125, and
Dillon Witt won by technical fall at 133 in the event's last match, which aided the Spartans to a 37-14 victory over the Westminster College Blue Jays.
The Spartans remain undefeated in duals and look ahead to their trip to Des Moines next Saturday, Nov. 16, to wrestle at one of the toughest tournaments in the NAIA regular season, hosted by reigning national champs Grand View University. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m.
