ST. LOUIS - On the road taking on the Eutectics, the Spartans jumped out to an early lead and held control throughout a majority of the contest on their way to a double digit victory.
The Spartans started the contest with a 10-0 lead as they dominated the inside, and they finished the first frame up 17-9. Kayleigh Winch started her dominant performance with eight points in the first 10 minutes.
The Eutectics cut their deficit to just four points early in the second, but the Spartans were able to extend their lead back to double digits by the halftime break as they took a 36-24 lead into the locker room. At the break, Winch led the Spartans with 15 points and Mariana Cubero had six rebounds.
The second half featured a lot of back and forth action as UHSP would cut down MBU's lead and the Spartans would respond right after. The Spartans had a 14 point lead, but only led by five heading into the fourth quarter. In the low scoring frame, Sophia Horton knocked down a pair of threes to help keep the Spartans in front.
It did not take long for Missouri Baptist to get their lead back to above 10 points, and they kept UHSP at an arm's length throughout the remainder of the game as they would go on to win 73-60. Horton had 13 points in the fourth quarter to boost her final tally to 25 as she shot 75 percent from the field, went a perfect 5-5 from beyond the arc, and 8-8 at the free throw line.
Winch finished the contest with 23 points and Aliyah Williams also had 10 points, four assists, and two steals.
The Spartans won the paint battle as they had 26 points in the paint and did not trail at all in the contest.
