FULTON, MO. - After falling behind early in the contest the Spartans fought back, but was unable to overcome the early deficit and eventually lost 75-70 to the Owls of William Woods.
The first quarter of the game did not bode well for MBU as they only made two shots from the field along with two free throws to tally six points to the Owls' 15.
Down by nine the Spartans were in need of some more offensive output, but instead they only produced nine points in the second frame to go into the halftime break down 31-15.
At halftime MoBap had not made any shots from beyond the three point arc and only shooting 21 percent from the field.
In the first five minutes following halftime MBU had cut William Woods' lead to just six points with offensive production coming from multiple Spartans.
With a minute left before the fourth quarter Aliyah Williams knocked down a triple to cut the deficit to just two points, but WWU increased it back to six going into the final frame.
With 5:19 left in the contest Tyler Butler made a layup to give Missouri Baptist their first lead of the contest.
Good free throw shooting from the Owls down the stretch led WWU to a 75-70 victory over the Spartans as they were able to fend off MBU's late push.
Butler had a big game for MBU as she finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Williams and Bryce Dowell each had 12 points to follow Butler in points.
In the final 20 minutes of play MoBap shot 60 percent from the field to help fuel their comeback attempt.
MBU will return to the court Thursday night at (RV) Columbia.
