Despite a promising first quarter, Missouri Baptist University's men's lacrosse team eventually got outplayed by the sixth-ranked William Penn University's 32-person roster on Feburary 29th. They found themselves on the losing end of a 21-3 score.
WPU struck first, scoring a goal within the first three minutes of the match. MoBap's leading goal-scorer, Reece Dotterer, responded soon after with a goal of his own, assisted by Dylan Forbeck.
Dominating in the face offs, William Penn added some cushion to their lead, scoring two more goals before Caleb Tant ended the streak. Assisted by Brock Pleis, Tant attacked the goal from X, bringing the score to 3-2.
One more goal by WPU brought the first quarter to a close, with MBU down by just two.
MoBap got out-manned and out-played by William Penn in the second and third quarters, leaving them unable to score any goals.
MBU's defense tried everything they could to stop WPU's strong attack, but they were overwhelmed by the constant runs to goal from the face offs. In the second quarter, WPU won face offs 10-1, and in the third, they won 4-1.
Goalkeeper Ashton Scott stayed determined between the pipes while he was pelted. He recorded 20 saves to WPU's 63 shots.
Missouri Baptist was able to open the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal from Joe Busselman. From there, MBU was able to hold William Penn to just two goals within the fourth.
MBU will play again on Saturday (March 2) against Taylor University at 5:00 PM for another chance to win at home.
