Spartans Take Care of Business

GEORGETOWN, KY. - On the road in the finale of their spring break trip MBU was able to come away with a 15-6 victory against (RV) Georgetown.

The Spartans struck first to go up 1-0 as KJ Bonenberger found the back of the net in the first 30 seconds of the game, but Georgetown scored the next two goals to make it 2-1.

Missouri Baptist tallied four straight goals to end the quarter as Caroline Karr scored, Lydia Cornett got two goals, and Bonenberger got another to make the score 5-2 heading into the second quarter.

It was a quiet second quarter for both sides as Cornett scored the lone goal of the quarter to give MBU a four goal lead at the halfway point.

Following the two goals in the first quarter from Georgetown, Amelia Shaw and the Spartans' defense were able to hold them to no goals and Shaw picked up three saves.

The Spartans opened up the scoring in the second half coming from Mackaylee Miller, Marissa Oldham, and Skyler Morrissey.

Georgetown scored the next goal, but Miller quickly got it back as she netted another goal off of an assist from Morrissey to make it 10-3.

Cornett, Morrissey, and Bonenberger all scored in the third quarter and MBU only allowed one more Georgetown goal in the frame.

MBU was up 13-4 heading into the fourth quarter and they tacked on a pair of goals from Karr making it 15-4.

Georgetown scored two goals late in the game, but MoBap had already done enough to secure a 15-6 victory on the road.

'

Cornett finished the contest with four goals, and Karr and Bonenberger trailed shortly behind her with three goals of their own.

Cornett and Karr helped MBU's offense more than just scoring as they racked up 11 draw controls as a duo.

The Spartans' defense kept Georgetown's offense at bay as Loryn Dotson forced three turnovers and Bonenberger, Zegar, and Karr each forced two.

Missouri Baptist will have a week off until their next contest when they host Ottawa at home on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
