PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist Spartans offense just keeps on rolling. On Tuesday, MBU had 20 hits while scoring 15 more runs in a 15-3 victory over Park University.
The victory continues a monstrous offensive run of late for the Spartans. During their current seven game winning streak, MBU has put an astounding 117 runs on the board, averaging almost 17 runs per game. The Spartans have invoked the "mercy rule" in each of their last four games that were scheduled for nine innings.
Third basemen
Jayden Orozco was one of several offensive stars in the victory. His recent power surge continued Tuesday as he connected for his seventh home run in his last seven games. It was part of a four-hit day for the junior from Chandler, Ariz. in which he had 5 RBIs and three runs scored.
Oddly enough, in a game in which the Spartans pounded out 20 hits, the Orozco home run was joined by a pair of
Cole Robinson doubles as the only extra-base hits of the game for MBU.
Robinson,
Blane Besse,
Joe Schmidt, and
Cesar Soto each had three hits in the game.
Meanwhile on the mound,
Nick Sharp got his first start of the season and pitched a solid three innings, giving up one run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Tony Caldwell came in to pitch the next three and was awarded the win. The junior from Strafford, Mo. held the Pirates scoreless on just one hit while walking four and striking out five.
Sean Keene finished it out by pitching the seventh in the non-save situation.
The Spartans will ride a seven-game winning streak into a weekend series with Harris-Stowe State University.
