Spartans’ Season Ends in AMC Quarterfinal

COLUMBIA, Mo. - In the AMC Tournament facing off against UHSP the Spartans were unable to contain the Eutectics as the Spartans' fell 85-77.

 

Early in the contest the Spartans fell behind 6-0 off of a pair of three pointers from UHSP, but they fought back and tied the game at six apiece.

 

Grace Beyer, the NAIA all-time scoring leader, took over in the second half of the first quarter as she had 13 points in the frame.

 

Going into the second quarter MBU was down by nine, but they were able to keep up with the Eutectics before halftime as they went into the break with the score at 34-43.

 

Kayleigh Winch was the spartans' leading scorer with 10 points at the break, and Sophia Horton was right behind her with eight of her own.

 

Missouri Baptist came out flat to start the second half as UHSP extended their lead to 19 points with just under six minutes left in the quarter.

 

MBU cut their deficit to just eight points, but went into the final 10 minutes down by 11.

 

Another rough stretch to start the fourth quarter hindered the Spartans as they were down by 17 with over three minutes left, but with a minute and a half left they trailed by just six points.

 

UHSP was able to fend off the Spartans' late push as they held on to win 85-77.

 

Beyer had a massive day scoring for the Eutectics as she finished with 54 points along with eight rebounds as she knocked down 24 of her 25 free throw attempts.

 

Horton put up 22 points throughout the game as she had 15 points in the second half.

 

The loss brought the Spartans' season to a close as they finished with an 11-17 overall record and a 9-9 AMC record. The Spartans had a big run towards the end of the year with a five game win streak that came to an end in the regular season finale.
