ST. LOUIS - MBU welcomes Culver-Stockton into town for week three with plans to pick up their second win.
Last week the Spartans picked up their first win of the 2024 season in a 42-7 contest against Clarke. Missouri Baptist took control of the game in the first quarter and never looked back as they played stifling defense and kept tacking on scores.
The Wildcats will come to Spartan Field with an 0-2 record after losses to Mount Marty and MidAmerica Nazarene. Last week's loss to MNU was a big one as they allowed 69 points and only scored once on a long sustained drive that went 75 yards in 11 plays.
The Spartans' offense has relied heavily on their run game in the first two weeks, especially in the win last Saturday since they had the lead for the majority of the bout. Lionel Banks carries a heavy workload for MBU as he has averaged just under 80 yards per game on the ground. Missouri Baptist has found success throwing the ball in the previous two weeks as Jordan Simpson has linked with Joseph White for two touchdown passes on the season.
Culver-Stockton disperses their yards on the offense as a handful of rushers have carried the ball for the Wildcats. Kyle Dixon is an outlier for the Wildcats as he comes into this week's contest averaging 133.5 receiving yards per game.
The Spartans will have to find a way to limit Dixon's yards in their week three matchup, but they have found success in their previous two matchups containing teams through the air with a trio of interceptions. The front seven for the Spartans have also done their job well as they have forced 15 tackles for loss and six sacks. Dabrein Moss leads the Spartans defense with 28 total tackles followed by Zeppelin Velder with 16 and Giovanoi Sanes and Nick Stepney both with 15.
