ST. LOUIS - At 1:00 PM Spartan Field will host William Woods and the Spartans as MBU hopes to reach 3-1 and start off Heart of America Conference play with a victory.
The Spartans remain with a 2-1 record following their no contest game last week at Peru State due to weather conditions. The Owls are coming into St. Louis following their programs' first victory against Westminster last week.
Throughout the early part of the season the Owls have given up a handful of yards on the ground, and the Spartans have seen much success in that facet of the game. WWU averages 278 rushing yards allowed per game, and Lionel Banks, the leading rusher for the Spartans, has averaged just over 85 yards rushing with six touchdowns.
Missouri Baptist has won the time of possession battle throughout the course of the season and the Owls are weak in that category matching MBU's 32:37 with their 24:58.
Today will feature a matchup of two wide receivers for both sides of the contest as WWU's Jalen Becerra has averaged 53 yards receiving per game and MBU's Joseph White has gained 77 yards per game during the start of their campaigns. Both sides have had defensive players flying all over the field, Carter Holloway has racked up 30 tackles for the Owls and Dabrein Moss has averaged just under 15 tackles per game with a season high of 19 against Clarke.
Jordan Simpson enters today's contest just 46 passing yards shy of 2,000 in his career and Banks is one rushing touchdown short of 15 in his career.
