FAYETTE, Mo.– Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball was swept by No. 19 Central Methodist University on Thursday night in Fayette, Mo.

The opening set was a thriller that needed extra time to complete. An ace from
Natalie Edson put the Spartans up 8-5 early, but they later found themselves in a three-point deficit at 15-12. Three consecutive errors from the Eagles and a kill two plays later from freshman
Fernanda Perini had the game tied at 16.
The two teams matched each other point-for-point when
Elina Arsov helped the cause with two kills to put her team up 23-22. The freshman from France added another kill a few plays later to make it 25-25 before a kill from Annabelle Maassen and a service ace from Gabi Owczarek ended set one 27-25 in favor of the Eagles.
Despite hitting .061 in set two, MBU found themselves in another closely contested frame. Trailing 19-17,
Gabi Jakubowska took the feed from
Maiana Coelho for a kill. Edson followed up with her second of two aces in the match to tie the game at 19, and
Kassie Lee tied it at 20 two plays later with a kill.
The Eagles responded with consecutive points to force a Spartan timeout and ended the match with kills on two of the next three plays.
CMU ran with the momentum in set three and wrapped up a 3-0 sweep with a convincing 25-15 victory. The Spartans hit -.028 in the final frame despite a trio of kills from
Kirsten van der Vleuten.

th-ranked Pirates to open the tournament at 6:30 p.m., and then play two more on Saturday at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m.
