Women’s Volleyball Opens Four-Game Weekend at No. 19 Central Methodist

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball will kick off a four-game weekend at No. 19 Central Methodist University on Thursday afternoon before playing in the Park University Classic beginning on Friday. The Spartans have started the season at 2-7 and sit just outside the NAIA Top 25 in this week's poll.

After 11 days off, MBU volleyball travels to Fayette, Mo., for a 6 p.m., start against the 19th-ranked Eagles. The Spartans are coming off a 1-2 performance at the Viterbo University Invitational where they picked up a 3-1 ranked win over No. 6 Midland University.

Gabi Jakubowska currently leads the Spartans with 3.43 kills per set, followed closely by freshman standout Elina Arsov at 2.94. Arsov is one behind Luiza Arsufi from the service line with 13 aces, while Julia Pereira (5.00 digs/s) and Kassie Lee (30.0 blocks) anchor the MBU defense.

Central Methodist has played three matches this season, dropping just one set to William Penn University in the season opener, with their other two wins coming against Graceland University and Tabor University. They are averaging 12.90 kills per set and 1.50 blocks with a .247 hitting percentage.

Park University Classic
The Spartans begin the Park University Classic on Friday, Sept. 6, with a contest against 14th-ranked Park University at 6:30 p.m. The Pirates are 4-2 this season with a .222 hitting percentage, 14.00 kills per set, 2.0 aces per set, and 1.5 blocks per set. Their only two losses have come against Cornerstone University and 11th-ranked St. Thomas University.
 
MBU wraps up the tournament with a pair of games on Saturday, Sept. 7, against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 10 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m., meeting with the University of Saint Mary. The Eagles are 5-4 this season but are currently on a two-game losing streak. The Spires are also 5-4 overall but are 1-2 over their last three games.
