ST. LOUIS - Missouri Baptist University welcomed the Hornets of Harris-Stowe in a rescheduled conference game in which the Spartans came away with a 73-51 win with four double-digit scorers.
The early portion of the contest was low scoring and was knotted up at four apiece before the Spartans went on a 9-5 run to close out the last six minutes of the first quarter. Sophia Horton was doing a bit of everything as she had two points, four rebounds, and two steals in the first ten minutes of the conference clash.
Missouri Baptist grew their five point lead into 11 points in the first four minutes of the quarter with a 6-0 run. The Spartans ended the second quarter with a 17 point lead as they won the frame 23-10 while shooting 50 percent from the field.
Riley Jansen was the leading scorer for MBU with 10 points, she also racked up five boards in the half. Kayleigh Winch trailed Jansen with seven points of her own along with four rebounds and three blocks. Horton and Mariana Cubero each had six points as well.
The Spartans faced a tough push by the Hornets in the third quarter as they trimmed Missouri Baptist's lead to just nine points, but the Spartans were able to get it back to 15 points heading into the fourth quarter up 53-38.
In the fourth quarter the Spartans were doing what they needed to as they extended their lead to 25 points with just six minutes left to play, and they were able to finish it out, winning 73-51.
A trio of Spartans were all on the hunt for double-doubles with points and rebounds as Horton finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, Cubero racked up 10 points and nine rebounds, and Jansen tallied 14 point and eight rebounds. Winch also joined the double-digit scoring with 13 of her own.
Missouri Baptist shot 42.6 percent from the field in the contest and won the paint battle 30-20.
