ST. LOUIS - Following the holidays the Spartans hosted the undefeated Lady Lions and were in striking distance throughout the game, but FHU was able to pull away late in the contest to win 60-49.

Missouri Baptist came out swinging as they gained an early 7-0 lead and kept that lead for a majority of the first quarter. The Spartans held a six point lead over FHU with just over three minutes left to play, but the Lady Lions went on a 7-0 run to close the quarter up by one over MBU.

In the first frame Sophia Horton had six points and Mariana Cubero had five rebounds.

The beginning of the second quarter went Freed-Hardeman's way as they held an eight point lead over the Spartans with five minutes to go in the half. The Spartans were able to trim their deficit to just five points before going into halftime.

At the break, Horton led both teams in scoring with 13 points and Cubero notched her rebounds tally up to eight.

The third quarter was the lowest scoring of the four as the Lady Lions outpaced MBU 13-10 and FHU held a 43-35 advantage over MBU heading into the final frame. The physicality picked up in the fourth quarter and Freed-Hardeman extended their lead slowly throughout the final 10 minutes and were able to come away with a 60-49 victory over the Spartans. 

Cubero finished the contest with a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, continuing her dominance on both ends of the court.
