Spartans Struggle to Contain Clarke in 3-0 Loss

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team faced Clarke University on Saturday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa, and returned home with a 3-0 loss. The Pride controlled the game offensively, recording nearly four times as many shots as the Spartans.

Clarke University came out strong in the first half, breaking through just 16 minutes into the match with a goal past Sean Stone. The Pride kept up the pressure, continuing to test the Spartans' defense and finding the back of the net again 16 minutes later to make it 2-0.

The Spartans managed to stop two shots in the first half while taking three of their own. MBU also earned one corner kick during their offensive efforts in the opening half.

The Pride kept their momentum going into the second half, scoring again at the 52:35 mark to extend their lead to 3-0. Fortunately for the Spartans, Clarke couldn't find the back of the net after that.

Stone finished the match with five saves, while eight of Clarke's 15 shots were on target.

The Spartans will return home to host William Penn University (Iowa) on Saturday, Oct. 25, for Senior Day at Spartan Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
