No. 21 MBU Volleyball Looks to Extend Five-Game Winning Streak in a Trio of Matches

ST. LOUIS – No. 21 Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball have swept their last five opponents and look to continue its streak heading into a Tuesday night matchup against Stephens College and a pair of road conference games this weekend against Benedictine College and Baker University.
 
The Spartans have won their last 15 sets while hitting .318 with 13.33 kills per set in that span. Their opponents have been held to a .083 hitting percentage and 8.20 kills per set on 11.73 digs per set and 6.8 blocks per game from the MBU defense.
 
Fernanda Perini has been the biggest driver of the defense with 1.73 blocks per set over the last five games, while Julia Reis Pereira anchors the back row with 4.25 DIG/S. Allana Capella and Gabi Jakubowska have split the bulk of the offensive duties, registering over 3.20 K/S each with a hitting percentage over .260. Jakubowska has additionally chipped in 19 service aces while freshman Mary Potteiger has sent over 12.
 
On Tuesday, Oct. 21. at 7 p.m., the Spartans are back home for a match against Stephens College, who are 17-10 overall and 9-1 in American Midwest Conference play. They have won their last four in a row, and are led by Lena Hunziker with 3.22 kills per set and Jatnna Pena-Perez with 5.12 DIG/S. As a team, they are hitting .223 this season with 11.7 kills per set.
 
Heart of America Athletic Conference play resumes for MBU at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, at Benedictine College. The Ravens are sitting at .500 with a 7-6 record in conference play. They lost both games on their last road trip to Park University and Missouri Valley College, and are 1-4 over their last five.
 
The Spartans end the week with  a 1 p.m. opening serve at Baker University on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Wildcats enter this week with a 14-7 overall record and are 8-5 in the Heart. They rebounded from a four-set loss at Central Methodist University with a sweep at Missouri Valley on Saturday, Oct. 18.
