ST. LOUIS – No. 21 Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball earned its 18
th consecutive set win and sixth straight sweep on Tuesday night with a 25-10, 25-19, 27-25 win over Stephens College.
The Spartans improved to 21-5 overall behind a .277 team hitting percentage, seven aces, and five blocks. The Stars dropped to 17-11 overall and were held to a .054 percentage by MBU.
Gabi Jakubowska was the Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Match with 12 kills, a .417 percentage, nine digs, and two aces.
Allana Capella led the team in kills with 16 on 35 attempts (.257), while
Fernanda Perini hit .545 with seven kills.
Valentina Navarro tallied 33 more assists to put her at an even 770 for the season.
Defensively,
Kassie Lee and
Abby Harder paired up multiple times for blocks, with Lee leading the way with five and Harder tallying three.
Julia Reis Pereira dug 11 while
Summer McDonough pitched in seven, along with a pair of kills.
MBU opened the game with a dominant 25-10 set one win behind six kills from Capella, two blocks from Lee, and two aces from Jakubowska. They hit .242 while holding the Stars to a -0.172 percentage.
Capella continued to rack up kills with seven more in the second set. Navarro tallied 13 assists in the frame and found Jakubowska an additional five times. The Stars had a 17-16 lead late in the set, but Capella and Jakubowska combined for four kills in a 6-0 run. Capella later served up an ace followed by another kill from Jakubowska to win 25-19.
Stephens went on a 7-0 run midway through set three, coming back from down 6-10. The Spartans responded with a pair of kills from Perini at 17-16 before finding themselves tied 25-25. An attack error gave MBU match point and McDonough came through to end the sweep on a free ball.
The Spartans continue conference play on Friday, Oct. 24, hitting the road to play at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. The opening serve is set for 7 p.m. The live stream will be available on the
