MBU Struggles Against Columbia College, Looks Ahead to Home Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Missouri Baptist University women's basketball team faced Columbia College (Mo.) on Wednesday evening, falling 72-45. Several Spartans contributed to the scoring effort, but the Cougars maintained control throughout the game, led by Ashtyn Klusmeyer's impressive 28-point performance.

In the first half, the Spartans struggled offensively, converting just 10 of 32 field goal attempts and making only one three-pointer while missing all their free throws. Meanwhile, the Cougars found their rhythm early, shooting 14-for-31 from the field, 8-for-17 from beyond the arc, and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

The second half showed some improvement for the Spartans, who shot 35.5% from the field and 14.3% from the three-point range, adding one free throw to their total. Columbia, meanwhile, shot 30.3% from the field, 20.0% from beyond the arc, and maintained an impressive 80% accuracy from the free-throw line.

Riley Jansen and Paula Puzule led the Spartans' offense with eight points each. Jansen also made a strong impact on the boards, collecting eight rebounds, while Puzule added one. Jenna Plymale contributed solidly as well, pulling down six rebounds for MBU.

The Spartans will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15, for their 2025-26 home opener against Clarke University. Tipoff is set for noon at the Carl & Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
