Luke Gardner claimed his first career Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week award on Monday, Nov. 3, after winning the William Woods University Fall Invitational at Eagle Knoll Golf Club last week.
Gardner, a senior from Springfield, Mo., opened the tournament on Monday, Oct. 27, with a two-under 70. He rolled in eagles on holes seven and nine as he closed out a four-under 32 going out. On the back nine, he posted a trio of bogeys, offset by a birdie at 11 to end day one at 70.
On Tuesday, he shot one under on the back, including a birdie at the par-four eighth. He started the back nine with three pars, followed by a birdie and two bogeys. He ended the day with an even-par 72.
He was the only golfer under par in the tournament at -2, besting William Woods' Victor Vella by three strokes. It was his second win in the month of October, earning a victory at the CBC Fall Invitational on Oct. 14, at Maumelle Country Club.
