ST. LOUIS - Missouri Baptist University women's basketball secured a home victory Tuesday afternoon, defeating Ottawa University 67–59 at home to close out the nonconference match-up with a strong second-half performance.
Abigail Williams and Riley Jansen led the Spartans with 15 points apiece. Williams added five assists, while Jansen chipped in four rebounds and went 3-for-6 at the free-throw line. Jenna Plymale also added six rebounds, while Madisyn Doran added seven points for MBU.
Missouri Baptist pulled away in the second half after a tightly contested opening two quarters that ended with the Spartans holding a slim 30–28 edge at the break. MBU shot 57.1 percent in the third quarter, outscoring Ottawa 18–12 to build momentum heading into the final period.
The Spartans maintained control over the stretch, extending the lead to as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter. Missouri Baptist finished the game shooting 39.7 percent from the field and knocked down eight 3-pointers, while holding Ottawa to 32.8 percent shooting. The Spartans also won the rebounding battle, 44–40, and totaled 18 assists on 25 made field goals.
Missouri Baptist will continue conference play on the road on January 3 against Mount Mercy. Tip-off is set for noon.
