Spartans Fall to No. 6 Reinhardt Eagles 17-8

WALESKA, Ga. – On Thursday (March 12), Missouri Baptist University Women's Lacrosse took another tough loss in Georgia, this time courtesy of the NAIA's 2024 Women's Lacrosse National Champions, (6) Reinhardt University.

The Spartans stayed even with the Eagles until the birds soared in the third period, creating some distance between themselves and Missouri Baptist on the scoreboard.

Olivia Julian had the most points for MBU with four, and Cornett followed close behind with three.

Reinhardt put a point on the scoreboard first, but this did not deter Julian from scoring one for the Spartans a little over a minute later, assisted by Skyler Morrissey.

After this, both teams remained scoreless until about a minute left in the first when Reinhardt scored off two quick free position attempts.

Delaney Pechnik scored an electric goal assisted by Cornett at the begging of the second quarter, bringing the score to 3-2. The Eagles responded with a goal of their own.

A few minutes later, Cornett fired the ball into the back of the net off a free position attempt.

Like the end of the first period, the Eagles were able to find two more goals before the end of the second.

Reinhardt started off the second half with another goal. Soon after, Pechnik scored her second goal on the day, assisted by Morrissey.

Then, the Eagles went on a nine-goal run that bled into the fourth quarter until Cornett finally scored her third goal of the day, bringing the score to 16-5.

Missouri Baptist proceeded to score two more soon after, both coming from Julian.

Reinhardt was able to score another before the end of the contest, but not before Julian put one last point on the board for the Spartans off a free position attempt, making the final score 17-8.

MBU goalkeeper Kevynn Bouchard took care of business between the pipes, recording 14 saves for a save percentage of .45. Although Bouchard displayed an impressive performance, the Eagles proved to be too dominating across the field.

Defensive Highlights:
Cornett – three caused turnovers, two ground balls, one draw control
Julian – four DCs
Mack Miller – three DCs

MBU faces (8) Life University on Thursday (March 13) at 11 a.m. to hopefully end their trip to Georgia with a win.
