MOBILE, Ala. – No. 22 seed Missouri Baptist University men's tennis saw its season come to a close Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-2 to No. 11 seed University of Northwestern Ohio in the opening round of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship.
The Spartans wrapped up the year with a 16-8 overall record, setting a new program record for wins in a season. The campaign also included a Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship appearance and the program's first NAIA National Championship berth since 2016.
MBU dropped the doubles point to start the match, though the No. 1 duo of Luca da Silva Ebenriter and Sebastian Junghanns earned a 6-1 win.
In singles play, Ebenriter secured his second victory of the day with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 performance at the No. 1 position. Lucas Kzam added another point for the Spartans with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
Despite the pair of singles wins, the Racers clinched the match by taking four of the six singles matchups.
