ST. LOUIS – No. 11 Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball will put its five-game winning streak on the line this weekend against Central Methodist University, Grand View University, and William Penn University.
The Spartans enter a week with three Heart of America Athletic Conference matches as winners of their last five and 10 of their last 11. Overall, they are 12-2 with four top-20 wins and an unbeaten 4-0 in the Heart.
They play Central Methodist on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m., in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC. Over the weekend, the Spartans travel to Grand View on Friday, Sept. 19, for a 7 p.m., start and the following day to William Penn University for an 11 a.m., opening serve.
Senior outside hitter
Gabi Jakubowska leads the team with 200 kills, averaging 4.35 per set.
Allana Capella has added 160 kills (3.27 K/S) and 20 service aces, while
Fernanda Perini has provided 99 kills and a team-best 65 blocks at the net.
Setter
Valentina Navarro has directed the offense with 517 assists, averaging 10.55 per set, and
Julia Reis Pereira leads the defense with 189 digs (3.63 D/S).
As a team, Missouri Baptist is averaging 13.1 kills per set on a .259 hitting percentage while limiting opponents to .129. The Spartans also hold edges in aces (2.3 to 1.3 per set), blocks (2.1 to 1.8), and digs (12.8 to 11.9).
CMU comes into the contest on Wednesday with a 9-3 overall record and a 1-1 conference record, including a sweep over William Penn and a three-set loss to Grand View. GVU starts the week at 13-1 and 3-0 in conference play with wins over CMU and Missouri Valley College without dropping a set. William Penn is currently 13-6 with a 3-1 record in the Heart and is coming off a loss to CMU.
