Baldwin City, Kan.- The Missouri Baptist University men's wrestling team collected its third conference dual win of the season on Wednesday night against the Baker University Wildcats, 33-10. The Spartans won eight of their matches and had four bonus-point victories in duals.
The night started in favor of BU, as No. 7 at 125 Saoul Prado won the first match of the night via major decision to give the Wildcats four in the team score.
The Spartans did not let it affect them, as they went on to win eight straight matches, which began with an overtime victory for Geno Cardenas at 133 and a decision win for Daryl Mills at 141.
Brayden Eikermann dominated in his bout, as he collected 13 points in the first period. Eikermann would only need 17 more seconds in the second period to finish the 17-0 technical fall. Brandon Bollinger almost matched the pace at 157. Bollinger would keep the pressure late in his match to score extra team points with a 15-2 major decision.
Even though Hunter Song gave up the first takedown of the match, He found his rhythm with a takedown of his own in the first period. After an unevenful second period, Song outscored his opponent 8-4 in the final period to win 14-8.
CJ Bauer continued his freshman campaign with another controlled victory at 174, and won his match 10-5, which was aided by a pair of takedown downs and some nearfall.
At 184, Blake Johnson went on the offense early with a first-period takedown, and it did not take long for Johnson to grab the reversal and find the fall early in the second period.
The Wildcats' final win of the night came at 197 with a fall in the final period.
Amad Soufi did not want to let that be the last laugh and dominated his match 7-0 before he found the fall early in the second period to finalize the 33-10 victory over Baker University.
The Spartans return for a non-conference home dual against the Midway University Eagles (Ky.) on Saturday Jan. 17. Wrestling to commence at noon.
