Men's Soccer Rallies in Second Half for Third Straight Victory

DAVENPORT, Iowa – A dominant final period by the Spartans' offense led to a 3-0 victory over Saint Ambrose, the first road conference win for the men's soccer team this season.

The game was mostly under the control of MBU from the first kick. Missouri Baptist outpaced SAU 10 to 6 in first half shot attempts, detailing an imbalance in possession. Nate Boos, a goal scorer from the Spartans' win over William Woods, put two shots on goal himself. Meanwhile, the Fighting Bees made goalkeeper Sean Stone earn his stay as well, with the senior saving four shots.

The second half saw MBU truly take over, possessing a dominant control over the ball. The shot differential across the period was 14, as Saint Ambrose managed just three.

The Spartans' first strike finally came in the 61st minute by way of Man of the Match Elymane Ahouissoussi, credit going to Cooper Powell for the assist.

MBU's second score would happen just two and a half minutes later off the foot of Javar Harris, who has been a terror for opposing defenses recently.

As if the current damage was not enough, Missouri Baptist scored a dagger in the 68th minute to put the match away. Ivan Vodanovich notched his second career goal in as many games with help from a Dejan Lakic pass.

"It was a good game today," said Ahouissoussi. "I think we're doing well in the second half, a good reaction. I'm happy for the win."

Before today, MBU Men's Soccer was struggling on the road against Heart opponents, falling to two and drawing with another. The win against Saint Ambrose helps the team overcome such a challenge.

"Three wins in a row; it feels good," said Head Coach Roosevelt Peters. "Super, super happy, I'm grateful to God. We had so many starters that didn't go for this trip, and the boys dug deep and found a way to win. A humble way, you know, after the first half. They kept on believing and stuck through. In the second half, they turned it on, with Ivan stepping up, Elymane stepping up, Cooper's first start, all of that. Once again, a professional performance, taking care of business. Three in a row, MBU, here we go."

The three-game winning streak will look to become four as men's soccer returns to St. Louis and Spartan Field to take on Culver-Stockton College on Wednesday, October. 14th at 4 p.m.
