No. 4 Spartans Handle Yellowjackets in Clean Sweep

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - No. 4 Spartans take care of a young Yellowjackets team in a clean sweep. It was truly a full team effort for the win.

The first two sets were dominated by MBU on the attacking end. The Spartans averaged a .401 hitting percentage while the Yellowjackets only managed a -.079 hitting percentage. Sophomore Caroline Tomlinson led all attackers with four kills, while Julia Reis Pereira had five digs after the first two sets. In a 17-3 error difference in two sets, MBU was able to handle business prevailing 25-10 and 25-12.

Set three was a different story as Graceland fought to keep it a game, while MBU struggled with errors of their own. After taking an early 12-5 lead, the Yellowjackets go on their own 5-0 run to cut the deficit to only two. A pair of Emma Hlavsa kills helped the Spartans build their lead back up to four. Graceland found their rhythm a bit both offensively and defensively, doing just enough to take the lead late 23-22. A Coach Ochs timeout seemed effective as MBU went on a 4-1 run to seal the win, with the final blow being a Valentina Navarro service ace.

Noa Reculard and Tomlinson tied for a team-high six kills. Plenty Spartans got in on the fun in the serving department as Isabella Munari, Katie Hunt, Navarro, and Reis Pereira each had two service aces. Navarro also did well distributing the ball with twelve assists.

No. 4 Spartans will wake up to face conference-opponent Peru State as they inch closer to post season play.
