ST. LOUIS – On what would be both a celebration for the 2026 senior class and the final outing on Spartan Field this season, Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer went toe-to-toe with Park University. The difference would be a single goal scored early in the second half, putting the Pirates over the Spartans, 1-0.
In terms of shots, the squads were even through the opening period. Each side saw five attempts, two of which were on goal for each team as well. Neither team was able to convert a score throughout the first half, ending the period even at zeroes.
Park took command of the game early in the second half, forcing their way into the heart of the Spartan defense, sneaking a shot past MBU keeper Sean Stone for the game's only score.
Missouri Baptist had more shots overall in the final period, seven to four, but put just one on goal. Despite being out possessed, the Pirates placed all four shots on goal.
Tonight was a chance for the men's soccer squad to increase their odds at a postseason berth. The Spartans currently sit tied with Clarke at 20 points for the final seed and face a Baker team that is just behind with 17 points. Coach Roosevelt Peters is prepared to move on from this loss and focus on the game that will likely decide the team's future.
"Next game always, right," said Peters. "It was poor today. Again, I don't know why we're not picking up our level and following instructions, but we just have to keep our faith, and it is time to clinch a spot."
The final regular season game for MBU Men's Soccer takes place in Baldwin City, Kansas on Saturday, October 31st against Baker for a must-win Halloween matchup.
