Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Spartans Face Off With Highly-Ranked Ravens Squad

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer faced off with No. 3 Benedictine College under the lights on Spartan Field.

The contest was in favor of the Ravens from very early on. BC scored their first goal in the 12th minute and never quite looked back. Benedictine would go on to add two more scores in the first half, and four in the second.

The Spartans were dealing with their opponent's attack for most of the game, resulting in little output offensively. Kate Jose tallied the squad's only shot attempt in what would be a save for the Ravens' keeper.

Jordyn Maryas saw the first 45 minutes in goal for MBU, saving six shots. Erin Davidson earned her first minutes as a Spartan, replacing Maryas for the second period, saving five shots.

"Very good opponent. They are ranked where they are for a reason," Head Coach Deno Merrick said about the contest. "They showed their quality throughout the game. I don't think we were up to the races, and I think that is why the score ended up the way it is. We just weren't efficient when we had the ball, while they showed that efficiency. Defensively, we weren't as good as we have been the last few games. For us, it is going back to the drawing boards and fixing the things we need to, getting sharper in the areas we need to. The biggest thing is understanding when we do have possession, we have to treasure the ball, and control the moments that we should and be better in those moments."

MBU Women's Soccer looks to right the ship on Wednesday, Oct. 7th in a matchup with William Woods University at 4 p.m. in St. Louis.
