BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - A late goal was not enough to boost Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer over Baker University in the squad's final match in 2026.
With both teams sitting outside of the Heart conference tournament, the motivation for the contest was to end the season on a high note. Baker was ready to accomplish this mission from the beginning, scoring a goal in the 13th minute. The goal would be the only score in the first period.
Missouri Baptist was finding more success themselves, however, putting two shots, each off the foot of Addisyn Sopczak, on goal in the opening half.
The Wildcats were able to score a second goal early out of the halftime break to extend their lead to 2-0.
Sopczak continued her pressure on the other end, though, forcing another shot on goal early in the half. The attack finally bore fruit late in the period, when Mackenzie Stahl put her first career shot into the back of the net, scoring the team's first goal in 12 games during the 81st minute. Sopczak was again present in the play, assisting the goal.
Unfortunately, Stahl's score would be too-little too-late, as the Spartans were unable to score again in the contest, falling to Baker 2-1. Yet, the offensive output was greatly improved compared to recent samples for Missouri Baptist, creating something for the team to hang their hat on at the conclusion of their season.
Jordyn Maryas was the final keeper of the season for MBU, playing all 90 minutes and saving four shots.
While Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer is finished for the season, stay tuned for postseason academic and athletic awards to be announced soon.
