MBU Puts Up a Good Fight against No. 3 Park University

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's volleyball lost 3-0 to Park University Saturday, Feb. 28, after three hard-fought sets in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC.

Isaac Allgeyer led MBU with a hitting percentage of .364, and Josh Kaemmerer led the game with 29 assists. Adrian Figueroa carried the Pirates with 23 kills on 38 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .500.

Set One
The Spartans created a back-and-forth first set after Luka Stepanovic started the game with a kill. The set stayed consistent before some strong swings came from Park's Figueroa, who posted a hitting percentage of .533.

After Park took the lead with three kills from Figueroa, the Pirates finished on a Moises Ortiz kill to take it 25-20.

MBU's Stepanovic (.571) and Park's Figueroa (.533) led the set in percentage, while the Pirates' Ortiz paced the frame with two blocks. Jovan Nikolic led in assists with 12.  

Set Two
Set two started rough for the Spartans, but they picked it up after Justin McGary's kill, which gave the team momentum and tied the set 13-13. Figueroa continued to be a strong presence throughout the second, averaging .433 in hitting percentage. After a kill from Stepanovic, AJ Tufuga had back-to-back blocks to take the lead for the Spartans, 22-20.

The Spartans fought until the end, but Figueroa finished the set with a kill, 25-22.                

Within the set, Park's Ortiz led with a hitting percentage of .600, and Jovan Nikolic led with 11 assists. MBU's Tufuga and Stepanovic led with two blocks.

Set Three
The Spartans took the fall in the third set, losing 25-16. Allgeyer gave the Spartans some momentum with a .538 hitting percentage before the Pirates finished the set with a kill from Figueroa (.500).
