Missouri Baptist Comes Up Short in 69-57 Loss at William Woods

FULTON, MO. — Missouri Baptist University fell 69-57 to William Woods on Tuesday night as the Owls pulled away late behind efficient free-throw shooting and a balanced scoring effort.

The Spartans trailed 29-26 at halftime but stayed within striking distance for much of the second half before William Woods closed the game on a decisive run. The Owls went 23 of 28 from the free-throw line, including several late trips that helped seal the outcome.

Merquiche Lewis led Missouri Baptist with 15 points, scoring seven in the second half to keep the Spartans competitive. Austin Lewis added 11 points, while Javaris Moye chipped in 14.

William Woods was led by Brock Davis with 14 points. Demarco Buchanan scored 9, and Isaiah Payne added 15 off the bench, including three 3-pointers in the second half.

Missouri Baptist shot 41.2 percent from the field but struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 11 of 21 attempts. The Spartans were outscored by William Woods' and were unable to overcome the deficit down the stretch.

Missouri Baptist returns to action later this week as conference play continues against Baker Univerisity on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 4 p.m. in the Petty SRC.
