ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist University men's volleyball team battled through three competitive sets but fell in straight sets to Georgetown College on Friday night. Despite the sweep, the Spartans showed resilience throughout the match.
Isaac Allgeyer led Missouri Baptist with 11 kills and added four digs. Justin McGary followed with nine kills and three block assists, while setter Josh Kaemmerer paced the offense with 28 assists.
Missouri Baptist opened the match with strong early exchanges, trading points with Georgetown through the middle of the first set. The Spartans stayed within reach late, cutting the deficit to 24–22 before Georgetown closed the set, 25–22.
Georgetown took control and took off in the second set, capitalizing on extended runs. Missouri Baptist continued to battle defensively but was unable to slow the Tigers' momentum as Georgetown claimed the frame, 25–12.
The Spartans responded with renewed energy in the third set, using balanced attacking and improved blocking to trim a double-digit deficit to 23–22 late. Missouri Baptist closed on a strong run, but Georgetown held on to secure the set, 25–22, and complete the sweep.
Missouri Baptist returns to action next Tuesday as the Spartans begin conference play against Missouri Valley. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
