MBU Tennis Secures Two Home Wins Over Concordia

ST. LOUIS — Missouri Baptist University men's and women's tennis earned a pair of victories Saturday afternoon at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center, defeating Concordia University in both matches.

The Spartan men improved to 7–1 on the season with a 4–1 win over Concordia, while the Missouri Baptist women moved to 4–4 overall with a 4–0 sweep of the Bulldogs.

On the men's side, Missouri Baptist secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Luca da Silva Ebenriter and Arkhip Tokmakov opened doubles play with a 6–2 win over Hugo Fuentes and Ognjen Gajic at the top position, while Nicolas Sanchez and Samuel Sanchez added a 6–2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The Spartans carried that momentum into singles play, claiming three matches to secure the team victory. Ebenriter posted a dominant 6–2, 6–0 win at No. 1 singles, Ruslan Anurev followed with a 6–3, 7–5 victory at No. 3, and Omar Farahat sealed the match with a 6–4, 6–2 win at No. 6.

Concordia earned its lone point at No. 4 singles, while two other matches were left unfinished after Missouri Baptist clinched the result.

In the women's match, Missouri Baptist controlled play from the start, sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the opening point. Melissa Jangarasheva and Yvonne Shannon led the way with a 6–2 win at No. 1 doubles, Mariana Azevedo and Lucia Rubio followed with a 6–1 victory at No. 2, and Jocelynn Carmody and Bissola Lassissi completed the sweep with a 6–2 win at No. 3.

The Spartans then finished the match with three straight-set victories in singles play. Yvonne Shannon earned a 6–2, 6–2 win at No. 2 singles, Jocelynn Carmody added a 6–2, 6–3 victory at No. 3, and Natalie Haug secured the clinching point with a 6–1, 6–1 triumph at No. 6 singles.

Several other singles matches were left unfinished after Missouri Baptist clinched the team victory.
