ST. LOUIS — Missouri Baptist University men's and women's tennis split results on Saturday, with the Spartan women earning a 5–2 victory over Illinois Springfield, while the men dropped a 5–2 decision to Lewis-Clark State.
The Missouri Baptist women picked up an impressive win behind a strong showing in both doubles and singles play, while the men battled in multiple tight matches despite coming up short.
On the women's side, Missouri Baptist secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Melissa Jangarasheva and Yvonne Shannon led the way with a 6–1 victory at the top spot, while Jocelynn Carmody and Bissola Lassissi earned a 7–6 win at No. 3 to give the Spartans the early advantage.
In singles play, Missouri Baptist delivered in key moments to clinch the match. Bissola Lassissi earned a straight-set victory at No. 1 (7–5, 6–4), while Yvonne Shannon battled to a three-set win at No. 2. Melissa Jangarasheva added a 6–4, 6–4 victory at No. 5 to secure the 5–2 team win.
On the men's side, Missouri Baptist dropped a 5–2 decision to Lewis-Clark State after falling in doubles play.
Lewis-Clark State claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, despite a strong 6–1 victory from Luca Ebenriter and Sebastian Junghanns at No. 1 for the Spartans.
In singles play, Ebenriter delivered a standout performance at No. 1 with a three-set victory (6–2, 6–7, 6–3), while Nicolas Sanchez added a hard-fought win at No. 6. However, Lewis-Clark State captured the remaining four singles matches, including multiple three-set battles, to secure the team result.
